Call to order by President Jackie Phelps at 6:00 pm. The meeting was held in the church building at 1119 Johnston St, Building #12

STATUS OF ACTION ITEMS FROM PRIOR MEETING -

  • Mary will research the available UUA RE curricula
  • Mike will purchase 8 new chairs for the Fellowship - completed
  • Mike will implement a building use calendar - completed
  • Bruce will reimburse Eva and Heath Headley for their excess payment in process
  • Emily will compile new member information for the revised web site - in process

Officer reports

  • President -  
    • Jackie attended the Downtown Faith Alliance meeting this morning. There is a volunteer opportunity at the Extra Mile Acadiana Visitation and Exchange Center. The volunteer would be assisting with supervised visitation of parents with children.  Ben Zucker with the unleash local initiative is lobbing to overturn the law preventing local minimum wage ordinances.     • Trash Bash on the Vermilion River sponsored by Project Front Yard is April 4.
    • SWUUWCon 2020 was February 28-March 1. It was very successful and brought many visitors to the Fellowship.
    • Jackie has created the LGBTQIA+ affairs committee ad hoc committee. Daniel Brewster will chair the committee.
  • Vice President - RE remains her thing. Lessons are in the binder. We need volunteers.Mary not here on Sunday.

Committee reports
  • Membership - vacant
  • Services  - Hunter - Next Sunday the topic is "The 4 Alleys of Forgiveness." Hunter will meet with Diane to discuss doing 7 services on UU. Michael Sutherland is working on a sermon.
  • Social Concerns - Scott -
    • The No War With Iran webinar viewing was held in the Sanctuary on Thursday, February 13th at 12 noon. It was suggested that we ask our Representatives to support S.J. Res 68 which requires removal of U.S. military from Iran unless approved by Congress.
    • Move The Mindset hosted Prof. Clint Bruce examination of relations between Acadians and Africans in Louisiana on Thursday, February 20th at the Downtown Public Library. Several members were in attendance.
    • UUA Strategies for Justice and Inclusion was held in the Sanctuary on Sunday, February 23rd at 1 pm. Diane Kirksey presided. We discussed POC demands and how they might be reworded as actionable items.
    • The Follow-up American Friends Service Committee webinar 'Criminalization & Immigration Detention's place in the Prison Industrial Complex' was held in the Sanctuary. I described Changing Systems, Change Ourselves webinar viewing was held Feb. 25 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary.
March:
    • Poster Party for Women's March St. Martinville, March 3rd at 1 pm, gather at Evangeline Oak
    • Women's March St. Martinville, 1-3 pm. Gather at Evangeline Oak
    • American Friends Service Committee Webinar: March 24 (7 to 8:30 p.m. ): Anti-Blackness and immigrant justice (we will view the recording at a later date as this conflicts with the LA-AID Organizational Meeting)
  • Web site - Bruce - There was a brief discussion of the web site.
  • Publications - Emily - We highlighted Black History Month in our social media during February. We now have a new temporary logo with a magnolia in a chalice.
  • Nominating - Diane - Nominations are currently being accepted for 2020 officers. The election will be held at the April 26 business meeting. The nominating committee is required to report the candidates and nominating committee's slate 14 days prior to that meeting at which. Diane will propose processes for getting nominees.
Old Business
    1. The April 26 Business meeting is next month.The EC will set the agenda. The agenda items will include discussing what charities we wish to support next year, and showing our newly revised web site.

    2. This year the UUA General Assembly (GA) will be held June 24-28 in Providence, RI. We need to identify who our two delegates are going to be. Jackie is going and is willing to serve as one delegate. A motion to provide assistance of $200 to each delegate that was deferred at the February EC meeting was reconsidered. The amount of assistance was amended to  $100 for each of the 2 delegates with the money to be taken from honorarium budget. This motion was seconded and approved.
    3. Pledges drive - we did not make the pledge. We will investigate providing UUA information on suggested  Fair Share contributions.
    4. The Move the Mindset matching appeal was extended through the end of March
                New Business
                1. Diane suggested we need to have better defined processes. Discussion followed.
                2. Diane is preparing a workshop on how UU Congregations can promote census participation in their communities. She suggests that encouragement to census participation in our community could raise the congregation's profile in Lafayette. The Power Coalition for Equity & Justice organization is offering mini-grants to organizations promoting local participation. More information is available on their mini-grant application form. Diane has applied for a mini-grant through her Compassionate Communication organization.She hopes to collaborate with a number of local organizations including our Fellowship in promoting census participation. It was agreed that the Fellowship will write a letter of support for the Compassionate Communication mini-grant.
